Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved participating in various card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he would play many hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on poker.
The real improvement in his game happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would regularly compete against one another. He was able to access several of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his strategic thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. He headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
