Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players in the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
