Howard Lederer lived in a family of five where he enjoyed gambling on different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he played many hours and lost most times. He made some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus attention more on the game.

The definite advancement in his skills began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would frequently compete against each other. Howard was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking techniques. He used these strategic concepts in the game of NL holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
