Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
