Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he loved taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he played many hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus more on poker.
The real improvement in his abilities began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. He was able to access some of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of NL holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker arena today. He relocated to Sin City in 1993 and participated in money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
